Keemeh – One Pot Iranian Dish

Description

Blend of beautiful spices. No need to say anything else!


Ingredients

Scale

1 chopped onion
1/2 of yellow split peas (soaked)
2 lbs of finely diced beef cubes
1/2 a can tomato sauce
2 dry lemons

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tsp salt,

1 tsp pepper,

2 tsp cumin

1 tbs allspice,
2 cubes of veggie stock ( or 1/3 cup of liquid veggie stock


Instructions

1. Fry onions and add turmeric and split peas. 

2. Add beef cubes and fry until completely sealed.
3. Add the rest of the spices + salt & pepper+ veggie stock cubes. ( if you’re using liquid veggie stock don’t add it yet)
4. Add tomato sauce, mix together and add the dry lemons after making 2 holes in them.
5. Let it simmer on medium-low fire for about 20 minutes. Add water or broth if you see it is getting dry to prevent it from burning.
6. Add the liquid veggie stock or substitute it with water if you are using the veggie cubes.
7. Let it simmer on low fire for about 2 hrs. or until meat is tender.

8.  potatoes cut in wedges
9. Serve with Saffron rice.

Notes

Instant Pot method: Do not soak the split peas.

1. Sautee the beef, split peas, all spices.

2. Once browned, add 1/3 broth and sauce.

3. Set to beef sew- approximately 35 minutes.

Slow Cooker method: Once everything is sautéed, add to the slow cooker and set to low for 6-8 hours.
